Instructions

To upgrade the VMware NSX Edge nodes to the latest Intelligent Catalog, you or VMware services must upgrade the NSX Data Center before upgrading VMware ESXi on the NSX Edge nodes.

Upgrade one VMware NSX Edge node fully before proceeding to upgrade the next VMware NSX Edge node. For each VMware NSX Edge node, repeat the following procedures:
  1. Shut down all the VMs running on the VMware NSX Edge node.
  2. Place the NSX Edge node in maintenance mode.
  3. Upgrade VMware ESXi and iDRAC Service Module (iSM).
  4. Exit maintenance mode.
  5. Upgrade the VMware vSphere distributed switch.
  6. Upgrade the VMware vSAN disk format (vSAN storage option only).
  7. Verify VMware vSAN health (vSAN storage option only).
  8. Power on all VMs running on the VMware NSX Edge node.

All the NSX Edge nodes should be running the same Intelligent Catalog version. The recommendation is to upgrade them both when logistically possible.
