PowerProtect DP Series Appliance: Security Warnings for PTAdmin Account

Symptoms

The iDRAC life-cycle log may show events indicating login failures or password changes for user "PTAdmin" or User ID 16. A corresponding email alert may be received from the ACM.
 

2022-07-09 19:45:46 27872 XXX0030 Successfully logged in using PTAdmin, from x.254.0.2 and H1.
2022-07-09 19:45:41 27870 XXX0030 Successfully logged in using PTAdmin, from x.254.0.2 and H2.
2022-07-09 19:45:47 27874 XXX1911 User ID 16 User Password has been changed.
2022-07-09 19:45:40 27869 XXX1912 User ID 16 User Access Right has been changed.

Cause

The Dell PTAgent software agent running on the ESXi host creates and manages the PTAdmin user.
The agent software updates the password every 60 days.
Other users should not modify the password. 
When the PTAgent is restarted, the password is updated.
The password may be changed when recovering from an error state.

Resolution

This behavior is normal and requires no intervention.
If these messages occur with excessive frequency, reach out to Dell support for review.
