Instructions
The aim of this article is to demonstrate how to:
- Create SQL clients manually.
- Register a Microsoft SQL Server remote agent running on an SQL Server.
- Create SQL clients using the wizard.
First: How to create SQL clients manually.
To create SQL clients manually, apply the following steps:
- Go to the Protection tab in the NMC, right click Clients and then choose New. The Create Client window appears.
General tab:
- In the Name attribute, write down the FQDN of the client.
- In the Comment attribute, write down an optional brief description about the client to be created like for example: SQL Client
- In the Save set attribute, write down the Save sets to be backed up.
- In the Protection group list attribute, add the client to the appropriate groups.
- Set the Retention policy, Client direct, Scheduled backup, Pool, Schedule, and Directive attributes for this client from the General tab.
Apps and Modules:
- In the Remote user and Password attributes, write down the credentials of a user that has enough privileges to back up the desired save sets.
- In the Backup command attribute, write down
nsrsqlsv. To specify more options with this command, check EMC NetWorker Module for Microsoft for SQL VDI user guide. - In the Application information attribute, specify the necessary options. To read more about that, check EMC NetWorker Module for Microsoft for SQL VDI user guide.
Globals (2 of 2)
- Set the Remote Access attribute to an appropriate value. This can be set it to
*@*. - In the Storage Nodes attribute, write down the name of the storage nodes that are going to back up this client.
- When done with the configuration of the client, click OK.
Second: How to register a Microsoft SQL Server remote agent running on an SQL Server.
To register a Microsoft SQL Server remote agent running on an SQL Server, apply the following steps:
- Go to the client itself and open a command prompt with admin. Privileges and run the following command:
nsrnmsqlra -i
Third: How to create SQL clients using the wizard.
To create SQL clients using the wizard, apply the following steps:
- Go to the Protection tab in the NMC, right click clients, and then choose New Client Wizard. The Client Backup Configuration window appears.
- In the Name attribute, write down the FQDN of the client. Write down a description for this client in the Comment attribute; and then the client to a group.
- In the Type attribute, select Traditional, then click Next.
- From the Available Applications box, select SQL Server. Then click Next.
- Set the Remote Access attribute to an appropriate value. This can be set to
*@*. Set the other attributes that you find in the Select the NetWorker Client Properties page to appropriate values. Then click Next. - Then select the database, instance, or Availability Group to be backed up from the Select the Backup Objects page. Then click Next.
- Then enter the credentials for a user that has enough privileges to back up the save sets specified in the Select the Backup Objects page.
- In the Specify the Backup Options page, select the options to use. To read more about the option to choose to use, check EMC NetWorker Module for Microsoft for SQL VDI user guide.
- In the Client Configuration Summary page, review the summary. After reviewing it, click Create.
- After the creation of the client completes successfully, click Finish.
