VxRail: How to Reset the Root Password of the iDRAC

Instructions

Follow these steps to reset the root password of the iDRAC:

  1. Connect to the node using SSH.
  2. Check the root user's ID:
    Prior to 8.0.300: /opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool user list 1
    8.0.300 and above: /opt/platformsvc/bin/ipmitool.sh user list 1
    Example:
    /opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool user list 1

  3. Set the new password on the root user's account using the account ID from the step 2 output.
    Prior to 8.0.300: /opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool user set password <Root user ID> <NEW PASSWORD>
    8.0.300 and above: /opt/platformsvc/bin/ipmitool.sh user set password <Root user ID> <NEW PASSWORD>
    Example, sets user ID 2 password to TestCalvin:
    [root@node-02:~] /opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool user set password 2 TestCalvin
    Set User Password command successful (user 2)
