Symptoms

The Lifecycle Logs shows event ASR0000 a few minutes after the iDRAC Service Module (iSM) communication was ended.

2023-10-03 08:53:23	11121	ASR0000	The watchdog timer expired.
2023-10-03 08:53:23	11120	LOG007	The previous log entry was repeated 62 times.
2023-10-03 08:45:25	11119	USR0030	Successfully logged in using PTAdmin, from 169.254.0.2 and WS-MAN.
2023-10-03 08:45:21	11118	ISM0007	The iDRAC Service Module communication with iDRAC has ended.`

Cause

It generally occurs when the iDRAC loses connection to the Host operating system (Through the iSM) for a set period of time.
If the host was off, or the iSM was degraded, for maintenance reasons or others, the watchdog timer could trigger.

Resolution

1. Verify that the Technical Support Report (TSR) inside Hardware > Attributes, searching for "ServiceModuleState" shows that the service is running.

2. Once the service shows as running, if the alert is a concern to you, consider clearing the System Event Logs (SEL) from iDRAC.

To clear in iDRAC, goto: Maintenance > System Event Log > Clear
To clear in iDRAC, goto: Maintenance > System Event Log > Clear. 


3. If this does not clear the iDRAC alerts to an "All Green" status, you may perform an iDRAC reset. 
How to Reset the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) 

Note: The iDRAC reset only reboots the iDRAC as an independent Out of Band (OOB) module:
  • This operation does not restart the server.
  • The iDRAC stops responding to ping as it resets.
  • The iDRAC becomes a little slow for a while after it responds back to the ping.
