Symptoms
PowerEdge 16G platforms with 24x2.5 NVMe switch active backplane, the following error message is logged in the kernel log, as shown in Figure 1.

Cause
This issue is not related to hardware or firmware and does not affect any functional behavior of the backplane.
Support of Vital Product Data (VPD) capability is optional, and the NVMe switch active backplane does not implement this feature.

This is working as designed.
