Symptoms

  • NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) vProxy VM backups intermittently fail for some virtual machines (VMs).
  • The VM backup session log shows:

NetWorker Server Location:

Linux: /nsr/logs/policy/POLICY_NAME/WORKFLOW_NAME/
Windows: C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\logs\policy\POLICY_NAME\WORKFLOW_NAME\


vProxy: /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/recycle/vbackupd/DATE 
YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS ERROR:  [13628] [140370599835392] ddp_close_file() failed, Err: 5029-A previous operation on this file has failed and no further APIs can be processed
YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS ERROR:  ddpg_close_file (1547): Closing file with fd=FILE_HANDLE# failed, error=5029
  • vProxy was upgraded to 4.3.0-54 or newer 4.3.0-x.
  • Data Domain OS is 7.X

Cause

This issue was raised to NetWorker and Data Domain engineering. There is a defect in DDBOOST library 7.13.0.0-1072298.

Resolution

A Data Domain code fix is released in Data Domain OS 8.0.0 and later versions.
A vProxy code fix is released in version 4.4.0-3 which is released with NetWorker 19.11. 

Upgrade the vProxy appliances to 4.4.0-3 and later versions:

DD OS should also be upgraded to version 8.0.x.

Workaround:

Replace the vProxies with 4.3.0-47 vProxies.
4.3.0-47 uses DDBOOST library 7.12.0.0-1052569 and this issue is not observed on this release.
