PowerEdge: AMD Milan Processors Reboot with Machine Check Exceptions

Symptoms
In rare cases, PowerEdge Servers in a Hypervisor cluster using AMD Milan CPUs (7xx3), may exhibit MCE randomly, and intermittently, across the cluster.
The PowerEdge servers impacted are:
- R7525
- R6525
- R7515
- R6515
Cause
Certain CPU instructions are not updated.
Resolution
There are two steps required to address this issue:
- BIOS update
- Upgrade to BIOS 2.19.0
- Settings change in the BIOS after the update.
- Enter the F2 BIOS.
- System BIOS Settings > Processor Settings > enable the setting AMD IC configuration Disable IT Bypass
- Save the changes and reboot.
Servers with this BIOS setting change may show a slight performance decrease of around 0.5% to 1% in typical virtualized environments.
