PowerScale: Licensed Features Removed After Upgrade
Summary: This article addresses a problem where licensed features disappear after committing the cluster. The article also explains an event warning about dynamic licensing.

Symptom 2:
Event is occurring:
116553 03/16 15:37 -- FEATURE_QUANTITY_DYNAMIC_LICENSING_EVENT 0 1 warning
116584 03/16 15:37 -- FEATURE_QUANTITY_DYNAMIC_LICENSING_EVENT 0 1 warningCause
Cause 1:
Dynamic Licensing is enabled by default upon upgrade. Due to differences on the backend, licensing can be removed.
Cause 2:
Dynamic Licensing is enabled by default upon upgrade. Due to a defect in consumed value reporting, a false warning can appear in events.
Resolution
Resolution 1:
There is a potential issue with the licenses. Manage licenses here:
If a license is needed immediately, these steps offer immediate relief:
powerscale-1# isi license modify --license-method=offline
powerscale-1# isi license add --evaluation=SYNCIQ
Add features that are needed, and generate a new license manually and send it to the licensing team.
Once the license is corrected, the licensing can be set back to dynamic if wanted:
powerscale-1# isi license modify --license-method=direct
Dell Dynamic Licensing Portal User Guide
Resolution 2:
Engineering is aware of the issue, and it is fixed in a future release. Command to check usage:
powerscale-1# isi license view OneFS
Module: ONEFS
Status: Licensed
