Instructions

The most common replication issues are related to the network configuration and can typically be resolved with some basic network troubleshooting.  Common related alerts seen within Storage Center or Enterprise Manager are: IPC Path down; cannot see remote storage center object, Remote disk down.

Before troubleshooting, make sure there have been no recent changes in the network or environment.    If changes have occurred, review to make sure they are not responsible for the connection issue.

Check Port Status

Follow these steps to verify that the physical ports used for replication are up. If any of the iSCSI ports used for replication are down, this needs to be addressed first.

  1. In Enterprise Manager, click the Storage view.
  2. In the Storage pane, select the Storage Center.
  3. Click the Hardware tab.
  4. In the Hardware tab navigation pane, expand Controllerscontroller nameIO Ports
  5. Note whether the ports are up or down

Recommended Actions:

If a port is down

  1. Verify that the cabling is correct
  2. Reseat both ends of the cable.
  3. Re-connect with a known good cable.
  4. Verify the switch port is working using the switch management interface.
  5. Connect to a different port on the switch.
  6. If the problem persists, move the cable back to the original port and test the connection to another device
    • If the connection fails, the problem is most likely with the switch.
    • If the connection works, contact Dell Technical Support for assistance.

If the ports are up

  1. Verify the IP addresses used for replication
    1. In Enterprise Manager, click the Storage tab
    2. In the Storage tab navigation tab, expand Remote Storage Centers target system.
    3. nbsp;Click Configure iSCSI Connections.
    4. Document the IP Addresses for each of the iSCSI ports.
    5. Close the Configure iSCSI Connections wizard.
  2. Use Enterprise Manager to ping from one controller port to a controller port on the destination system that is configured for use in replication.
