Intermittent Oracle archive backup failure

Summary: Oracle archive logs backup fail intermittently.

Symptoms

  • Oracle archive backups failing intermittently with the following error:


RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 2018-06-11 15:01:20
RMAN-06059: expected archived log not found, lost of archived log compromises recoverability
ORA-19625: error identifying file /export/thread_1_seq_98699.537.991420117
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status

 

  • The failures happen more than two times in a week.
  • Backup still fails on the same frequency even after performing an Oracle crosscheck.
  • There is no indication in either the NMDA or NetWorker logs even with debugging enabled.
  • Error logged in the Oracle alert log:
    Warning: VKTM detected a time drift

Cause

Time drifts can result in an unexpected behavior such as timeouts.

Resolution

Apply the Oracle solution patch 11837095 if available for your release or platform, or upgrade to Oracle 11.2.0.2.

After applying the Oracle solution patch 11837095, restart the NetWorker services on the Oracle client.

Note: This message is considered a "noise" message, but on trace log there are many timeouts during which the messages appear in the Oracle alert.log,
