Connectrix MDS : 97xx Chassis information missing with error message %PLATFORM-2-PS_UNSUPPORTED

Connectrix MDS Switch doesn't display the chassis information and no module information available.

The `show logging logfile` output will continuously the following error message.

Also show module command shows no chassis information could be retrieved and show environment power command shows pdb_get_chassis failure message.

Condition:
On 97xx series director class switches with SUP 4 (DS-X97-SF4-K9) module

Only workaround available at this time for writing this KB and no fix available.

Workaround:
==========
Switches running NX-OS 8.4(1) - NX-OS 8.4(2a):

Check the capability of standby module and then perform a system switch over if Chassis information are available on standby module.

Note: This command should be run from the standby supervisor (not from the active supervisor) after connecting to it using the Console port of standby supervisor. Console port access needs a access via CE or onsite resource from the Data centre.

From the standby SUP Please check Capability as below:

switch(standby)# show system internal capability | begin CHASSIS
2) Service:platform, Capability:CAP_TYPE_CHASSIS
Description:Sets chasis database
chassis type MDS9700 10-slot chassis
num of slots 10
num of supervisor slots 2
sup slot 0 4
sup slot 1 5
num of fabric slots 6
chassis family 1

To switchover to standby use the following command on active supervisor:

switch# system switchover

Once the switchover is complete and the new standby is up and ready, check the above capability command on both Primary and Standby Supervisor and make sure Chassis information are available.

Note: If the "show system internal capability | begin CHASSIS" return nothing after connecting to the console port of standby supervisor, then to recover, a switch reload is required.


Switches running NX-OS 8.4(2b) onwards:

Use the following CLI command to add the chassis information.

switch# pfm pdb chassis-info add

Perform the following command and verify chassis information are added.

switch# show system internal capability | begin CHASSIS
2) Service:platform, Capability:CAP_TYPE_CHASSIS
Description:Sets chasis database
chassis type MDS9700 10-slot chassis
num of slots 10
num of supervisor slots 2
sup slot 0 4
sup slot 1 5
num of fabric slots 6
