If the server experience the above conditions, it is likely to experience an issue with a faulty NVDIMM.
In order to identify/isolate the NVDIMMs causing the OS to stop responding, the below steps must be followed - removing all NVDIMMs, adding back one at a time until the server experience the same conditions.
All NVDIMMs should be tested and any identified NVDIMMs causing the OS stop responding must be replaced.
- When the OS is in an unresponsive state, reboot the server using iDRAC UI or Virtual console
- Boot the server back to OS which would be in pingable state from command prompt and put the server in Maintenance mode from PowerFlex and vCenter (If applicable)
- Power off the server, remove all NVDIMMs from the server
- Re-insert one NVDIMM to test
- Power on the server, boot the server to OS
- Run the OS
pingprocess from command prompt and verify that OS is responsive for 10 minutes.- If the OS remains responsive, the tested NVDIMM is ok
- If after performing the above steps the server stops responding or goes unresponsive, the tested NVDIMM must be replaced
- Repeat steps 3-6 for every NVDIMM
- Replace any identified faulty NVDIMMs
