Cause

Joining a Data Domain to Active Directory (AD) fails if the password contains multibyte characters.

  • Data Domain supports ASCII and extended ASCII characters, but not multi-byte characters
  • This limitation is only for the user password used when joining AD.
  • It does not apply to user authentication while connecting to a CIFS share on a Data Domain.

Resolution

  • This issue does not affect data access on the Data Domain.
  • The workaround is to use only ASCII or extended ASCII characters in the password.
