Symptoms
Depending on configuration, Data Domains may have differing numbers of volumes. The number of volumes configured for each tier of storage is held in certain registry keys.
In some situations, the number of volumes recorded in these registry keys can differ from the number of actual volumes on the system. If this occurs, the system posts a critical alert indicating that the corresponding tier is unavailable. For example:
Id Post Time Severity Class Object Message
--- ------------------------ -------- ------- ----------- --------------------------------------------------
263 Fri May 13 09:43:13 2016 CRITICAL Storage Tier=Active EVT-STORAGE-00020: The Active tier is unavailable.
--- ------------------------ -------- ------- ----------- --------------------------------------------------
This alert appears despite:
- The file system being enabled and running
- All drives showing as healthy
- There being no other alerts on the system
Cause
This alert is due to a mismatch between the number of volumes for a given tier on the system and the number of volumes recorded in the registry.
Attempts to clear the alert such as rebooting the DD or performing a BMC reset do not clear the alert.
Resolution
If this issue occurs, registry keys on the Data Domain must be updated to indicate the correct volume count. Contact your contracted support provider and open a service request for assistance with this.
