MFE SCF: GNS Does Not INCLUDE Devices that were Previously INCLUDED and EXCLUDED

Summary: Devices reincluded after being excluded do not appear in the GNS STATIC or DYNAMIC groups.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

  • Adding new INCLUDE statements after existing INCLUDE and EXCLUDE entries in GNS group definitions causes unexpected behavior.
  • Devices that are initially INCLUDEd, then EXCLUDEd, and later re-INCLUDEd do not appear in ResourcePak Base STATIC and DYNAMIC GNS groups.
  • This occurs because GNS processes all INCLUDE statements first, followed by all EXCLUDE statements, and does not support reinclusion of previously excluded devices.

Cause

GNS does not support reincluding devices once they have been excluded, due to its strict INCLUDE-then-EXCLUDE processing logic.

Resolution

  • To ensure proper device inclusion in ResourcePak Base GNS groups, list all INCLUDE statements first, followed by all EXCLUDE statements.
  • Do not attempt to re-INCLUDE any device that has already been EXCLUDEd, as GNS does not support reinclusion.
