Avamar: How to Verify Permissions for Accounts in SQL Server Management Studio

Instructions

Avamar requires permissions within SQL Server in order to perform a backup or restore.

Procedure

  1. Connect to the SQL Server host by using Remote Desktop.
  2. Open SQL Server Management Studio.
  3. Connect to the appropriate SQL Server instance.
  4. In the Object Explorer pane, expand Security.
  5. Expand Logins.
  6. Identify the account used by the Avamar Backup Agent.
    • By default, Avamar uses the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account.
    • If the Backup Agent uses a different account, select that account instead.
  7. Right‑click the selected account and select Properties.
  8. In the Select a page pane, select Server Roles.
  9. Verify that the sysadmin role is enabled.
