[Isilon] Gen6: 'isi ipmi features list' returns an empty feature list while trying to configure IPMI

Summary: While trying to configure IPMI on a cluster containing Gen6 nodes, 'isi ipmi features list' returns an empty feature list and no IPMI features can be enabled.

Symptoms

While trying to configure IPMI on a cluster containing Gen6 nodes, 'isi ipmi features list' returns an empty feature list:
# isi ipmi features list
ID Feature Description Enabled
------------------------------
------------------------------
Total: 0
When trying to enable specific IPMI features supported on Gen6 nodes, an error message is generated indicating the feature is not available:
# isi ipmi features modify SOL --enabled=True
The feature SOL was not found. Run the isi ipmi features list command to display available features.

# isi ipmi features modify Power-Control --enabled=True
The feature Power-Control was not found. Run the isi ipmi features list command to display available features.

Cause

The cluster is a mixed environment containing both Gen5 nodes (which do not support IPMI features) and Gen6 nodes (which do), and the IPMI configuration commands are being run on one of the older nodes that do not themselves support IPMI. Although 'isi ipmi' is technically a clusterwide command and hence is supposed to be node-agnostic, running it on older nodes that do not support ipmi features currently produces unexpected results even if there are IPMI-supporting nodes present elsewhere in the cluster.

Resolution

Run the IPMI configuration commands from one of the supported (Gen6 or newer) nodes in the cluster. If an attempt was previously made to configure IPMI, and partial or incorrect settings are in place as a result preventing completion of the configuration from a Gen6 node, it may be necessary to clear the current IPMI configuration and start over. If needed, the following command can be used to do so:
# /usr/bin/isi_ipmi_mgmt_d --remove all
