Instructions
An issue was identified on ATOS DDVE that may result in panic and potential data corruption. The issue is caused when a DDVE has more than one active capacity license subscription assigned to the DDVE but one of them is expired. Under this condition, the system is unable to generate the system alert required to notify users of this condition. Without this alert, the total file system capacity may be reduced without notice, causing the potential to block any future write operations. The affected DD releases include 7.x versions (DDOS-7.6.0.5, DDOS-7.7.2.0, DDOS-7.7.3.0).
The DDVE ATOS configuration is typically deployed on public clouds such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. This issue only affects this DDVE configuration.
It does not affect physical Data Domains or IDPA, as the license used is either perpetual or they use block storage (this includes DD3300 and DP4400). The issue is not manifested if the DDVE has only one capacity subscription license as it generates the required alerts and properly transits.
Solution
This issue can be prevented. The recommendation is to proactively review the DDVE subscriptions in your accounts, and renew any subscriptions before expiration to avoid this issue. This applies to both active-tier and cloud-tier subscriptions.
A permanent fix is planned for these DDOS versions and above:
- DDOS-7.10.0.0
- DDOS-7.7.3.0
- DDOS-7.9.0.10
