Instructions

Goal:

Clearing the iDRAC job queue on Dell servers.

Fact:

During a firmware upgrade, the code is staged on the server and requires a reboot to complete the upgrade which takes approximately 45 minutes. But if an emergency or lack of time requires the server to reboot and bring up immediately, the job queue can be cleared with a single iDRAC command and can be rebooted immediately.

Solution:

  • Clear the iDRAC job queue using one of the following:
Method 1:
    • Run the following command through racadm:

racadm -r <dracIP> -u <username> -p <password> jobqueue delete -i JID_CLEARALL_FORCE

      • <dracIP> is the iDRAC IP address

      • <username> is the username of the user

      • <password> is the password for the server

Note: The -r option is only needed when running remote, if you are running directly from the host OS this is not required.

Method 2:
    • Run the following commands through SSH to iDRAC:

racadm jobqueue view
racadm jobqueue delete -i JID_CLEARALL_FORCE

  • Wait 120 seconds.

Note: The iDRAC is unable to process any other jobs during this time.

  • Reset the iDRAC through CLI command or GUI.
