Symptoms

During the initial validation using the parameters file, hosts fail with the following errors on the UI:

"Incorrect set of vmnics provided for host <hostname>"

Further, in the vcf-bringup-debug.log, you can find errors similar to the following:

Cause

Hostname validation is case-sensitive. The common cause for these failures is that the VxRail cluster was deployed with mixed or purely uppercase hostnames for the ESXi nodes, while Cloud Builder expects all lowercase.

Resolution

Make all ESXi hostnames lowercase.

  1. Connect to the host directly with a vSphere Client and select the ESXi host
  2. Select Configure - TCP/IP configuration
  3. Select the Default TCP/IP Stack
  4. Observe if the hostname displayed is in mixed Upper and Lower case letters
  5. If yes, Select the Default TCP/IP Stack, and then click the Edit button
  6. Set the hostname with all lowercases as per your bring up sheet
  7. Retry again the workflow.

(If this does not apply, please further investigate in the Cloud Builder logs)
