Scenario #1: Broadcom tg3 - Transmit Queue Timeout

Symptom:
This issue is seen with Broadcom cards.
ethMa may lose network connection due to tg3 firmware issue.
NETDEV WATCHDOG: <interface> (<driver>): transmit queue <#> timed out
ethMa (tg3): transmit queue 0 timed out
Example:

Resolution: 
 

Scenario #2: Broadcom bnx2x - Transmit Queue Timeout

Symptoms: 
Transmit queue timeout, issue seen with Broadcom cards
eth1a (bnx2x): transmit queue 7 timed out
Example:
May  1 01:12:12 datadomain kernel: [9207895.910222][   C61] (E4)NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1a (bnx2x): transmit queue 7 timed out
Resolution:
Upgrade DDOS version to DDOS 8.2 or higher release.
 

Scenario #3: QLogic qede - Tx Timeouts

Symptom:
This issue is seen with QLogic cards,
Network I/O operations fail with Tx timeouts in the DDOS logs.
ethMc (qede): transmit queue 2 timed out
Example:

Resolution:
Upgrade DDOS version to DDOS 8.1 or higher. Also run below command to set the transmit timeout to 60.
# net option set ql_tx_timeout 60
 

Scenario #4: Intel ice - Transmit Queue Timeout

Symptom:
Transmit queue timeout
ethMc (ice): transmit queue 2 timed out
This issue is seen with Intel 25 Gbps /100 Gbps Nic cards.
Resolution:
Upgrade DDOS version to DDOS 8.3 or higher.
 

Scenario #5: Unsupported SFP+ Module

Symptom:
An unsupported SFP+ module type was detected.
Example:
May 12 04:58:45 datadomain kernel: [92453.417985] (E4)i40e 0000:19:00.0: Rx/Tx is disabled on this device because an unsupported SFP+ module type was detected. 
Resolution:
Based on the DDR model, order the SFP from the Dell Data domain support site.
 

Scenario #6: Intel ixgbe - Tx Unit Hang

Symptom:
ethMa: Detected Tx Unit Hang
Example:
Oct 21 21:21:58 datadomain kernel: [4011120.505166] (E4)ixgbe 0000:19:00.0 ethMa: Detected Tx Unit Hang
Resolution:
Replace the PCI Riser Card.
Sometimes, the NIC card may also need replacement.
 

Scenario #7: QLogic - MFW Not Responsive

Symptom:
The MFW is not responsive.
Example:
May 10 06:58:07 datadomain kernel: [1610244.578575] (E4)[qed_mcp_cmd_and_union:666(eth10c-0)]The MFW is not responsive. Avoid sending mailbox command 0x001a0000 [param 0x00000001].
Resolution:
Upgrade DDOS to 7.9 or higher releases.
 

Scenario #8: QLogic Hardware Error (DMAE Failure)

Symptom:
HW error occurred
Example:
May 10 06:58:07 datadomain kernel: [1610244.601613] (E4)[qed_hw_error_occurred:2414(eth10c-0)]HW error occurred [DMAE Failure]
Resolution:
Upgrade the DDOS to 7.9 or higher releases.
 

Scenario #9: QLogic - qede_tx_timeout

Symptom:
qede_tx_timeout
Example:
Jun 6 11:29:05 datadomain kernel: [3959072.479810] (E4)[qede_tx_timeout:923(eth10a)]Tx timeout!
Resolution:
Upgrade the DDOS to 8.1 or higher and configure the CLI command to set timeout "net option set ql_tx_timeout 60."

Scenario #10: Device Not Detected

Symptom:
Device not detected
Example:
Device not detected: QLogic 4x10GE QL41164HFCU CNA - 34:80:0D:CC:6A:C8(NIC in Slot 8 Port 1 Partition 1)
Resolution:
Reseat the NIC; if reseating did not help, then replace the NIC.
 

Scenario #11: HWC8607 - Lost Communication with NIC.

Symptom:
HWC8607 | The data communication with the device NIC is lost.
Example:
29388 | HWC8607 | 2021-04-26 05:07:58 | The data communication with the device NIC in Slot 4 running on the port 1 is lost.

29404 | HWC8607 | 2021-04-26 05:10:55 | The data communication with the device NIC in Slot 4 running on the port 2 is lost.
Resolution:
Upgrade the DDOS to 7.9 or higher releases.
