PowerFlex 4.X: How to Power-On after Unexpected Power Loss

  • PowerFlex management cluster (KVM)

The PowerFlex management cluster (KVM) feature is considered as technology preview. Contact PowerFlex product management for details on this option.

Management
  • Power on the switches
    • On all switches, confirm Green status lights
    • For out-of-band management switches, log in and confirm:
      • Validate the configuration, type 
        show running-configuration
      • Validate uplinks, type 
        show interface brief
      • Validate iDRAC connectivity, type 
        show interface brief
      • Validate swtich hardware, type
         show hardware (cisco only)
    • For non-management switches, log in and confirm:
      • Validate the configuration, type 
        show running-configuration
      • Validate uplinks, type 
        show interface brief
      • Validate port channels, type 
        show port-channel summary
      • Validate switch hardware, type 
        show hardware (cisco only)
  • Power on the management nodes
    • Confirm the status LED indicator light is off on each management node. The light on the front of the node should not be blinking amber. See for more information.
    • Log in to each iDRAC to confirm no hardware alarms or errors and confirm the OS booted successfully.
  • Verify the following in the management PowerFlex Manager:
    • Check alerts: Go to Monitoring > Alerts.
    • Check management diagnostic status (for PowerFlex 4.8 and above), and ensure all statuses are green.
      • Go to Monitoring > Management Diagnostics.
      • Run all management diagnostic tests.
    • SDS
      • Go to Block > SDSs.
      • Ensure the state is Healthy.
      • Ensure the connected state is Connected.
    • SDC
      • Go to Block > Hosts.
      • Ensure the connected state is Connected.
    • Verify health of resources: Go to the Resources tab and confirm the Health Status.

 

Production

  • Log in to each production PowerFlex Manager.
  • Check alerts: Go to Monitoring > Alerts.
  • Check management diagnostic status (for PowerFlex Manager 4.8 and above), and ensure all statuses are green.
    • Go to Monitoring > Management Diagnostics.
    • Run all management diagnostic tests.
  • SDS
    • Go to Block > SDSs.
    • Ensure the state is Healthy.
    • Ensure the connected state is Connected.
  • SDC
    • Go to Block > Hosts.
    • Ensure the connected state is Connected.
  • Verify health of resources: Go to the Resources tab and confirm the Health Status.
  • Verify power on the storage-only nodes, using the PowerFlex Manager storage only resource group to identify nodes. Ensure the resource group is healthy.
  • Verify power on the hyperconverged nodes, using the PowerFlex Manager storage only resource group to identify nodes. Ensure the resource group is healthy.
  • Verify power on compute-only nodes, using the PowerFlex Manager storage only resource group to identify nodes. Ensure the resource group is healthy.
  • If applicable, verify replication status using PowerFlex Manager.

  • Verify power on the hyperconverged nodes, using the PowerFlex Manager storage only resource group to identify nodes. Ensure the resource group is healthy.
  • Verify power on compute-only nodes, using the PowerFlex Manager storage only resource group to identify nodes. Ensure the resource group is healthy.
  • If applicable, verify replication status using PowerFlex Manager. Go to Protection > Overview.
  • If applicable, verify CloudLink status using PowerFlex Manager. Go to Resource Group > Overview.

      • Allow PowerFlex storage to boot before you continue.

      • CloudLink
      • Secure connect gateway
      • Jump server
      • VMware vCenter
      • Management virtual machines
      • Customer workloads
    • After 15 minutes, log in to PowerFlex Manager.
  • Verify the following in PowerFlex Manager:
