PowerEdge: Firmware update may fail on 16G/17G servers with 'USBNet is disabled' error

Symptoms
Updates performed using Dell Update Package (DUP) may fail and report the error 'USBNet is disabled. Please enable USBNet and try update again' in the conditions described below.
- Update is performed in 17G servers or few components firmware on 16G servers
- DUP-based update is performed in the Operating system.
- USB NIC pass-through is disabled in iDRAC.
- DUP is created using framework version
'25.08.01 Build 997'.
Cause
The Dell Update Package (DUP) is designed to temporarily enable USB NIC pass-through during updates; however, this feature is not functioning correctly in specific Framework versions.
Resolution
Workaround:
Enable USB-NIC passthrough in iDRAC manually from Idrac UI or Racadm CLI before the update is performed.
Solution: DUP created using newer version of framework or previous version of framework do not have this issue.
DUP framework can be identified using methods.
- Windows - Right click the DUP exe and check the "Details" tab under properties.

DUP.bin -fv
