Instructions
Method 1 - Physical verification (recommended when practical)
- Schedule or place the system in a maintenance state as required by your environment.
- Power off the server before removing any drive, following your operational standards
- Remove the drive and inspect the top‑cover label for the SSD PPID.
Caution: Removing a drive from a powered‑on system can cause data loss or hardware damage.
Method 2 - iDRAC Web Portal (no physical removal required)
- From a management workstation, open a browser and navigate to the iDRAC IP address.
- Log in using your iDRAC credentials.
- Navigate to: Overview → Storage → Physical Disks
- Expand the target drive by selecting the "+" next to the drive entry.
- In the Manufacturing Information section, locate the SSD PPID and compare it to the PPID list provided by Dell.
- Optional - Use the "Blink" function to activate the carrier LED for the identified drive.
- From the drive status page, select the "Blink" order to identify the correct physical SSD for replacement via the carrier LED.
Note: For detailed LED‑blinking procedures, refer to the iDRAC9 User Guide section on blinking/ unblinking component LEDs.
Method 3 - iDRAC CLI (RACADM)
- Run the hardware inventory command to list all components:
racadm hwinventory
- In the command output, locate entries where Device Type = Physical Disk.
- Identify the affected SSD PPIDs from those entries.
- Use the RACADM blink capability to activate the carrier LED for the first affected SSD PPID:
racadm storage blink
Note: For additional command details, see the RACADM CLI Command Guide for hardware inventory and storage blink.
