PowerStore Alerts: System limit alerts for file systems per NAS server

Summary: PowerStore generates critical or major alerts when the number of file systems per NAS server exceeds the configured threshold limits (90% or 99%), preventing the creation of additional file systems. ...

Symptoms

PowerStore monitors the number of file systems configured per NAS server. When usage reaches the defined thresholds, alerts are raised to notify administrators before the system-imposed maximum is reached. Once the limit is reached, no additional file systems can be created through the management console.

Alert ID

SYSTEM_LIMITS_MAX_FILE_SYSTEM_PER_NAS_SERVER_THRESHOLD_MAJOR_EXCEEDED

Alert Text

The number of File Systems per NAS Server has exceeded the major threshold of 90%.

Error Code

Cause

The alert is triggered when the total number of file systems configured on a NAS server reaches or exceeds the major (90%) or critical (99%) threshold of the maximum allowed limit.

Resolution

To resolve this alert, reduce the number of file systems on the NAS server by performing the following:

  1. Identify unused file systems – Review existing file systems on the affected NAS server and identify any that are no longer required or actively in use.
  2. Delete unnecessary file systems – Remove file systems that are no longer needed to bring the count below the alerting threshold.
  3. Verify the count has decreased – After cleanup, confirm that the file system count has dropped below the alerting threshold.
  4. Monitor ongoing usage – Regularly review file system provisioning practices to prevent recurrence.

Ensure that any file systems targeted for deletion are no longer serving active data, and that appropriate backups or data migrations have been completed before proceeding with removal.
