Summary: The Avamar Solaris backup fails with error code 12 indicating there is not enough space.
Instructions
Issue
The Avamar Solaris backup completes properly, but a postscript attempts to run and fails with the error code 12 indicating there is not enough space. The backup finishes with an error and is marked as Failed. During a Solaris client backup, the following warnings are logged:
2020-03-13 01:10:07 avtar Warning <6028>: Failed to run '/usr/bin/locale' code 12: Not enough space 2020-03-13 01:10:07 avtar Warning <6515>: Failed to get locale information - code 12: Not enough space
2020-03-13 01:10:16 avtar Warning <6028>: Failed to run '/opt/AVMRclnt/etc/scripts/post-script.sh' code 12: Not enough space 2020-03-13 01:10:16 avtar Error <7001>: Exiting avtar with run-at-end script failure 12
With Solaris and Oracle, Not enough space means that the machine is running out of virtual memory. This may be a sign of insufficient swap space. Generally, the available swap space should be 100-200% of the physical memory, but this depends on the OS version.
Resolution
On the backup client, verify that the swap size and the amount of physical memory is installed. During the backup, the resource requirements usually increase to levels not seen in other production scenarios. To resolve the issue, have the client machine administrator add the recommended amount of swap space to the machine.
