Symptoms
SQL backups fail with the following error in the nsrsqlsv.log:
Internal system error, please see nsr\applogs\xbsa.messages on the client system for reason.
Microsoft SQL Server Provider error:
Write failed, status = 995. See the SQL Server error log for more details.
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally….
Processing <DB> failed, the item is skipped.
The SQL Error log reports:
spid53 BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device '< Device name>'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).
Backup failed to complete the command BACKUP database [database] TO virtual_device='<Device name>' WITH name='<name>'.
Verify the xbsa.messages log. It reported the following error:
nwbsa_is_retryable_error: received a network error (Severity 5 Number 12): The feature "NetWorker Module for Microsoft SQL Server/9" is not properly enabled for client <client name>.

Resolution
Ensure that the license for NetWorker Module for Microsoft SQL Server is applied on the NetWorker server.
