PowerScale: Upgrade Prep Failure: CELOG Alerts

Summary: Upgrading Gen 6 node Dual Inline memory module (DIMM) but getting 'Hardware Upgrade Prep Failed'.

Symptoms

When performing the following command, a CELOG error appears:      

powerscale-1# /usr/bin/isi_hwtools/isi_upgrade_hardware --cluster --path /root/cluster_hardware_upgrade.json
Start hardware upgrade using /root/cluster_hardware_upgrade.json
Cluster Upgrade Prep Failure: CELOG Alerts
- Critical events exist on the cluster

Hardware Upgrade Prep Failed

Cause

An internal OneFS database holds a value preventing the upgrade to proceed.

Resolution

Upgrading to OneFS 9.5+ resolves this issue.

Workaround:     

  1. Issue the following command to clear the database event:     
powerscale-1# sqlite3 /ifs/.ifsvar/db/celog/events.db 'delete from events where end_time=0 AND severity=3'

 

  1. Retry the original command again:     
powerscale-1# /usr/bin/isi_hwtools/isi_upgrade_hardware --cluster --path /root/cluster_hardware_upgrade.json
Start hardware upgrade using /root/cluster_hardware_upgrade.json
Hardware Upgrade Prep Passed
