Symptoms

New windows client cannot connect to DD with CIFS/SMB.

Verified connectivity over port 445

Verified IP and hostname resolution and tested on multiple hostname

Connection fails with "the specified network is no longer available."

In Data Domain TCP.log, we see the TCP handshake get terminated repeatedly by the windows client.

Cause

Data Domain supports SMB protocol versions up to SMB 2.1. Support for SMB 3.x is under development and will be introduced in a future release.
Windows Server 2025 supports both SMB 2.x and SMB 3.x by default. If SMB 3.x is required or enforced in your environment, this is typically the result of a configuration change made locally such as a Group Policy setting or a server configuration that restricts the minimum SMB dialect.

Resolution

To access Data Domain shares over SMB, client systems must be configured to allow SMB 2.x connections.
If needed, your system administrator can review or adjust these settings to ensure SMB 2.x is permitted for Data Domain access.
