Data Domain: How to Power Off and Power On a Data Domain System

Applies To:

• All Data Domain physical appliances
• All DDOS software releases

Does Not Apply To:

Integrated products incorporating Data Domain Virtual Environment (DDVE) such as Integrated Data Protection Appliance DP4400, DM5500

Procedure

Powering Off the System

1. Gracefully shut down the appliance:

   • Log in using SSH and run:
     • # system poweroff
   • This command performs an orderly shutdown of all processes and powers off the system.
   • Administrative privileges are required

2. Caution:

   • Do not use the chassis power switch to power off the system.
   • Doing so prevents remote power-on over IPMI and does not perform a clean OS shutdown.

   Example:

   # system poweroff
   The system poweroff command shuts down the system and turns off the power.
   Continue? (yes|no|?) [no]: yes
   

3. Power off external shelves:

   • After the controller powers off, turn off expansion shelves (ES20, ES30, DS60):
     • ES20: Use power switches.
     • ES30/DS60/DS120: Disconnect AC power.

Powering On the System

1. Power on expansion shelves first:

   • ES20: Use power switches.
   • ES30/ES40/DS60: Plug into AC power.
   • Wait approximately 3 minutes after all shelves are powered on.

2. Power on the controller:

   • Press the power button (refer to the Installation and Setup Guide for your model).

3. Verify system status:

   • Confirm that the system has fully booted and DDOS is running:
     • Use the system console or SSH login.
     • The system is ready when you can log in successfully.
