Symptoms
Issuing a symstar list command shows CGs as Invalid:
# symstar list S T A R G R O U P S ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Target Second Target Flags Workload Star ----------------- ----------------- Name MLC Name State Name State Name State ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CG_NAME1 CSI SITENAME Trip TARGETNAME Pf1 SECONDNAME Pf1 CG_NAME2 CSI SITENAME Prot TARGETNAME Prot SECONDNAME Prot Legend: Flags: (M)ode of Operation : C = Concurrent, A = Cascading, . = Unknown (L)ocal Site : W = Workload, F = First target, S = Second target, . = Unknown (C)G State : V = Valid, I = Invalid, R = Recovery required . = Not defined States: Star State : Prot = Protected, Prprot = PartiallyProtected, Trip = Tripped, Tripip = TripInprogress, Unprot = Unprotected, - = Unknown Target State : Conn = Connected, Disc = Disconnected, Halt = Halted, Haltfl = HaltFail, Haltst = HaltStarted, Isol = Isolated, Pfl = PathFail, Prot = Protected, Pflip = PathFailInProg, Pflcl = Pathfail CleanReq, - = Unknown But a symstar query against one of the groups shows it as Valid: # symstar -cg CG_NAME2 query Site Name : TARGETNAME Workload Site : SITENAME 1st Target Site : TARGETNAME 2nd Target Site : SECONDNAME Composite Group Name : CG_NAME2 Composite Group Type : RDF2 Composite Group State : Valid symcg list command also shows the CG as valid.
Cause
This issue occurs because one of the CGs in the symstar list is invalid. This causes all the CGs to report as invalid. In this case, CG_NAME1 is invalid. It points to an array that is no longer presented to the hosts. Issuing symstar -cg CG_NAME1 query shows this CG as invalid:
symstar -cg CG_NAME1 que
Site Name : TARGETNAME
Workload Site : SITENAME
1st Target Site : TARGETNAME
2nd Target Site : SECONDNAME
Composite Group Name : CG_NAME1
Composite Group Type : RDF2
Composite Group State : Invalid
The query shows a link in a Partitioned state to an array that was recently removed. This array is missing from the symcfg list command output, so this causes symstar list to mark all CGs as Invalid as it cannot find one of the arrays.
Resolution
Workaround: Delete the offending CG or correct the configuration so that the array is not missing. To remove the offending CG, run the following command:
symstar setup -remove -cg CG_NAME1 -force -symforce
