USB-C Monitors Connected to a Thunderbolt Port Have No Video in Ubuntu

Symptoms

After booting into Ubuntu, unplugging a USB-C monitor that is connected to a Thunderbolt port and then plugging the monitor back in does not show any video on the monitor.

This issue happens only when the display mode is changed to Hybrid Discrete Mode in the BIOS.

Cause

There is an issue in Ubuntu that causes the discrete graphics (GPU) to not wake up properly after unplugging the monitor from the Thunderbolt port.

Resolution

Canonical has released an update to the Ubuntu operating system. Updating the Ubuntu operating system resolves the issue.
