Symptoms
During a restart, the laptop shows a black screen while power button LED flashes 1 red and 6 blue.
Affected Platforms:
- Alienware 16 Area-51 AA16250
- Alienware 18 Area-51 AA18250
Cause
A watch dog failure in the Embedded Controller did not respond as expected leading to laptop instability or crashes.
Resolution
Updating to BIOS version 1.0.1 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, refer to the Dell BIOS and UEFI Update Download and Installation Guide.
