Notebooks with discrete graphics generally ship with AC adapters rated for 130W.
Note: Higher-performance computers may require even more power.
USB Type-C monitors and some docking stations only supply 90W to the laptop when connected using Type-C. Computers with higher power requirements may behave unpredictably with these devices.
This is working as designed. The monitor or dock does not provide enough power to the computer. They were not designed to be the sole power source for computers with higher power requirements. Also, the computer may not be compatible with some docks.
It may be necessary to connect the correct AC adapter to the computer in addition to the monitor or dock. Dell Technologies recommends using specific docking stations for the best experience. Reference to the Dell Commercial Docking station Compatibility Guide or more information.
Note: When two power sources are connected, the laptop only draws from the source with the highest wattage.
