Symptoms
The following symptoms indicating the issue is occurring:
- System POST is stuck at the progress bar showing "
Initializing Firmware Interfaces…"
- The boot menu is available and responds to the hotkey to highlight menu options, but cannot enter the corresponding options.
- A POST Code
0x58(88)is shown in iDRACracadm.
- No other error is logged in the SEL/LC logs.
- All 16G BIOS versions before the May 2024 block release are impacted.
Cause
In rare situations, invalid UEFI variables can trigger the Dell Boot Option Cache (DBOC) driver's process condition. This condition causes the driver to become stuck in an infinite loop while attempting to retrieve the next variable.
This issue has only been observed on certain Intel platforms (excluding Intel Xeon E); however, due to the nature of this DBOC driver condition, it may also cause similar symptoms on AMD platforms.

Resolution
Fixed with BIOS update released in May 2024.
Intel BIOS - 2.2.7
AMD BIOS - 1.8.3
Dell Technologies recommends updating to the newest available BIOS version.
Workaround:
As a temporary workaround, use the "Clear NVRAM" jumper on the motherboard.
