PowerEdge: Dell 7500 NVMe SSDs Occasionally Cause High Fan Speeds
Summary: PowerEdge servers equipped with Dell Micron 7500 NVMe solid state drives may exhibit elevated fan RPM speeds.
Symptoms
Dell Micron 7500 Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) solid state drives (SSDs) may fail to report all required details to iDRAC. Due to inaccurate temperature data, iDRAC compensates by increasing fan RPM speeds.
The drive did not correctly report its model string, serial number, or firmware version as shown in the figure below:

Cause
A firmware issue has been identified and is resolved in the latest code.
Resolution
Update firmware on Micron 7500 drives at the earliest available opportunity to resolve this issue.
A system power cycle may be required after updating the drive firmware to ensure that I2C communications are fully restored.
