Symptoms

After a BIOS update, some PCIe addresses report different values.

Before BIOS update:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5720 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

01:00.1 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5720 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

2a:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2892 Family [ConnectX-6 Dx]

2a:00.1 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2892 Family [ConnectX-6 Dx]

54:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

67:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

d1:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

e3:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

After BIOS update:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5720 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

01:00.1 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5720 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

27:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2892 Family [ConnectX-6 Dx]

27:00.1 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2892 Family [ConnectX-6 Dx]

4d:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

5e:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

ca:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

da:00.0 Ethernet controller: Mellanox Technologies MT2910 Family [ConnectX-7]

Cause

This change was implemented intentionally to standardize PCIe address assignments on PowerEdge XE systems. The following systems include this update:

BIOS Version 2.4.4 and later:

  • XE9680
  • XE9680L

BIOS Version 2.5.4 and later:

  • XE8640
  • XE9640

Resolution

The change in PCIe device addressing is expected behavior following the BIOS update.

Affected Products
