PowerEdge: Failure to Detect All Mellanox CX-6 Industry Cards during Windows DUP firmware updates

Summary: On Dell PowerEdge 17G servers equipped with factory installed industry standard ConnectX 6 Dx cards, applying the Mellanox ConnectX 6 Dx firmware update from within the operating system may fail to detect all adapters. This can result in incomplete firmware updates in multi card configurations. This limitation does not apply to OEM Dell branded cards. ...

Symptoms

  • DUP execution reports fewer Mellanox adapters than physically installed.
  • Firmware updates apply only to detected cards; remaining cards stay on older firmware.
  • iDRAC or Lifecycle Controller may show inconsistent firmware versions across Mellanox cards.

Cause

The Dell Update Package (DUP .exe) and Mellanox Software Tools (MST) driver are incorrectly linked and prevents the firmware update process from detecting all adapters when performed from the operating system.

Note: This issue applies only to factory-installed industry-standard cards and does not affect OEM Dell-branded versions.

Resolution

Apply the appropriate DX or LX firmware update:

  • ConnectX-6 DX Network Firmware - Firmware 22.46.3048_A00_03

  • ConnectX-6 LX Network Firmware - Firmware 26.46.3048_A00_03
