Summary: Resolving migration issues

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Instructions

SYMPTOMS

  • Migration does not start
  • Invalid hostname, source, or destination paths

APPLIES TO

  • ALL Data Domain Restorers
  • ALL DDOS Releases

SOLUTION

The following steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Do not skip a step.

NOTE: Migration is a subset of replication and uses the same technology.

  1. Verify that the file system is enabled:
    1. From the DDR s command-line type: filesys status
    2. If the file system is disabled type: filesys enable
    3. See Enabling and Verifying the file system on a DDR per Data Domain - Verifying and Enabling the File System.
  2. Verify the correct migration syntax. Due to the complexity of the syntax structure to read the Configuring Migration Document.
  3. Verify that the DDOS version is compatible between migration pairs per Data Domain: Replication Versions Compatibility Matrix.
  4. Verify that Network Connectivity is working properly per Data Domain - Verifying that Network Connectivity is working properly. Both systems must be able to resolve the replication partners hostname.
    1. It has been noted in DD OS 8.3.1.0 that the source DD attempts to resolve the source hostname to an IP address. If using a direct connection between source and target DDs, a host record IP address of the Network Interface Cards (NICs) being used for migration would be advised. Below example shows the syntax for both the source and target host entries and can be set on both source and target DDs.
net host add <IP of target DD> <FQDN of target DD> <short name of target DD>

net host add <IP of source DD> <FQDN of source DD> <short name of Source DD>
