Symptoms

The 3.5mm audio cable on your Alienware headset stops certain functions from working.

You may find that the headset functions do not work when connected using the 3.5mm audio cable to your Alienware headset. These functions include:

  • Headset Indicator LED
  • Volume Control wheel
  • Microphone Mute button (on headset)
  • Game Chat Balance
  • Retractable and removeable Microphone

Alienware headsets that are affected:

  • Alienware Wired Gaming Headset (AW520H)
  • Alienware Dual-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset (AW720H)
  • Alienware Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset (AW920H)
  • Alienware Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset (AW725H)

Cause

The 3.5mm audio cable does not transmit or receive any other signals than audio and voice.

Resolution

Note: The headset's are working as designed. This is the expected behavior when using the 3.5mm audio cable.
 

The 3.5mm audio cable supplies audio and voice for devices that only support an Audio port. When you want to use the additional functions built into your Alienware headset. Do not use the 3.5mm audio cable to connect your headset to the device.
