Symptoms

The Manufacture Date and Asset or Ownership Date may become blank in the BIOS System Information page after the products motherboard is replaced.

This may be mistaken for a hardware or firmware issue with the replacement motherboard.

Steps to verify the condition in the BIOS:

  1. Enter the BIOS setup screens: Press the F2 key at the Dell splash screen.)

  2. Go down the menu and open the System Information page.

  3. Confirm that the Manufacture Date and Asset or Ownership Date fields are blank.

Affected Platforms:

  • Across all Dell platforms

Cause

The values are set in the original motherboard during its configuration in the factory:

  • Replacement motherboards do not include the original data from the factory
  • The BIOS does not re-create these values after replacing the motherboard

The Asset or Ownership Date represents the first time that the device is turned on after leaving the factory. The blank fields cannot be re-created after the motherboard repair.

Resolution

Note: There is no hardware or firmware issue with the replacement motherboard. This is the expected behavior after a motherboard replacement. It is working as it is designed to.

No further action is required if the device operates normally. The blank fields in the BIOS do not affect the devices functionality, performance, or its warranty status.
