A user may report they must remove the Hard Drive from their Dell Latitude, Precision, and Inspiron laptop computers. The article will show how this is done.
Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Hard Drive:
During installation or removal of any hardware always ensures all data is backed up properly.
Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer.
Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
Depending on the model of Latitude computer you have, there are slight differences in how the Hard Drive is removed.
(In the models that are listed below xx relates to the model range, for example E6500, E6510, E6520 & E6530)
For Latitude E63xx / E64xx / E65xx
Remove the two or four screws that secure the hard drive from the computer.
Slide the hard drive out of the computer and remove.
Remove the Battery and Bottom Door.
Remove the two or four screws that secure the hard drive and bracket in place.
Grasp the Mylar tab and gently poll it upward to release the hard drive from its compartment.
Remove the battery.
Release the latch to open the hard drive door.
Push the blue locking button (1) while simultaneously, pull the hard drive out of the computer (2).
Remove the battery from the computer.
Loosen the four captive screws on the hard drive bracket.
Remove the hard drive bracket.
Slide the hard drive towards the edge of the computer to disconnect from the system board.
Remove the battery and bottom door.
Remove the two screws securing the hard drive in place.
Pull the hard drive out from the computer.
The steps that are detailed below are used to remove the Hard Drive on all Precision Laptop computers.
Remove the battery.
Remove the two screws securing the bottom door in place and remove.
Remove the five screws securing the primary hard drive bracket in place.
Slide the battery release latch into the unlock position.
Remove the hard drive bracket from the computer.
The steps that are detailed below are used to remove the Hard Drive on all Inspiron Laptop computers.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Remove the two screws that secure the bottom back door to the computer base.
Remove the bottom back door.
Remove the screws securing the hard drive on the Bottom base.
Slide the hard drive assembly away from the hard drive connector.
Pull the tab to lift and remove the hard drive assembly out of the computer.
