Symptoms
The M.2 slot on the OptiPlex 3050 supports only PCIe M.2 SSD hard drives. This article provides additional information about this issue to ensure that the correct M.2 SSD hard drive is installed.

Resolution
The drive must use the PCIe bus instead of SATA when installing an M.2 SSD hard drive in the OptiPlex 3050. The following image (Figure 1) provides a visual reference for the two formats:
