Data Domain: "error: invalid PBKDF2 password" Displayed During System Boot

Symptoms
- During system boot, the following message is displayed:
error: invalid PBKDF2 password - The message appears while GRUB is processing its configuration.
- The system continues to boot normally.
- No administrator intervention is required.
Cause
This behavior is expected and occurs as part of a GRUB security-hardening mechanism implemented by DDOS.
To prevent unauthorized editing of GRUB boot entries, DDOS replaces the GRUB password hash in the configuration with a dynamically generated string that is intentionally not a valid PBKDF2 hash.
When GRUB parses the configuration during startup, it detects the invalid hash format and displays:
error: invalid PBKDF2 password
Despite the message, all configured boot menu entries remain marked as unrestricted and can boot normally without authentication.
During a DDOS installation or upgrade, the default GRUB password entry in the source grub.cfg file is replaced with a dynamically generated value. Because this value is regenerated, it changes following a DDOS installation, reinstallation, or upgrade.
Resolution
No action is required.
This message is expected behavior and does not indicate a system fault.
- The system continues to boot normally.
