Symptoms

Dell Pro Plus laptops with the DW5826e cellular card cannot log in using a fingerprint after resuming from sleep

Your laptop does not log in using your fingerprint when resuming from sleep back into the Windows operating system. Using a fingerprint has no response at the Windows login screen. Anyone may experience this log-in issue when using one of the following laptops with a DW5826e Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) card installed:

  • Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13255 laptop
  • Dell Pro 14 Plus PB14255 laptop
  • Dell Pro 16 Plus PB16255 laptop

Cause

The Dell Control Vault shares a USB root hub with the WWAN card. As the laptop resumes from sleep, both send out a USB command simultaneously. There is no response because the USB Host controller is busy. The biometric service stops when the fingerprint command from the control vault times out.

Resolution

Note: Administrator rights on your laptop are required to make any operating system changes or update any software.

The fix is to update the Control Vault 3 firmware. Update the BIOS to Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13255/14 Plus PB14255/16 Plus PB16255 System BIOS, version 1.2.1 or later. Use the instructions in the following link to download and install the Dell_Pro_Plus_PB13255_PB14255_PB16255_1.2.1.exe update file:
