Symptoms

Unable to connect to any switch by the device manager or discover it with the SAN client, getting snmp timeout error as below:
" Error: SNMP xx.xx.xx.x timed out. Busy network, no route, or snmpd is unresponsive."

Device Manager

Cause

  • Verified the snmp configuration are present at the switch side, and tried from different workstations and it was the same issue.
  • Eventually, after checking on any firewall, found UDP port 161 was blocked which is the port that s being used by snmp manager and agent in communications, and if this was blocked, the request will never reach the switch.

Resolution

-Enable the port 161 for snmp communications and confirm that there are no firewall restrictions.
-If the port 161 is already enabled and if the issue still persists then refer KB 000376909 in which changing the snmp.timeout from default of 10000 to 25000 and snmp.preferTcp setting from false to true has resolved the issue.
