Cause

The "/ifs/data/Isilon_Support/pkg" directory is the default location to write the log gather packages. Those files and packages are used for troubleshooting and technical support. This directory should not be removed.

The "/ifs/data/Isilon_Support/datamover" directory is the directory that stores data for the Data Mover service, a component of SmartSync. SmartSync is used for data migration and backup. This directory should not be removed.

All other files and folders within "/ifs/data/Isilon_Support/" were created throughout the lifetime of the cluster by either Dell Technical Support or the cluster Administrators. Dell Technical Support often uses "/ifs/data/Isilon_Support/" as a temporary holding place for troubleshooting scripts, test files, and temporary backup folders. By policy, Dell Support personnel are not allowed to delete data from a cluster, so unneeded files are often moved to this directory as a precaution.

Resolution

It is at the discretion of the cluster Administrator to remove the extra data within the Isilon_Support folder. Keep in mind, if there are active Support Cases with Dell Technical Support, some of the files or folders within "/ifs/data/Isilon_Support/" may be needed. If there are any Questions or Concerns, contact Dell Technical Support

Additional Information

The free space might take time to be reclaimed and reflected on the cluster space specially if snapshots exist on the path.
