Data Domain: How to find the Service Tag and Serial Number

Symptoms

Service-Tag and Serial Number can be found in the following locations on a Data Domain system:

  • From DD-CLI (SSH > KVM > Serial Telnet) command:  
# system show serialno
  • On a label or tag attached to the head unit (controller)
  •  In the Data Domain Auto-Support GENERAL INFO or OEM FRU section
  •  In iDRAC UI > Dashboard > System Information > Service Tag
    •  iDRAC SSH to iDRAC IP > Login as root > enter command racadm getsvctag
  • In DD System Manager > Maintenance > System

Applies to:

  • All Data Domain PowerProtect Appliances
  • All DD OS software versions

Cause

The Data Domain (DD) Serial Number has the following properties and uses:       

  • Main identifier for Support and Service Request creation
  • Associated with any attached storage and Licensed capacity of the DD file system
  • Is used as the Locking-ID (main identifier) for licensing purposes
  • Physically printed on a pull-tab label attached to the unit
  • Can be retrieved using standard system interfaces - DD-CLI (such as SSH) or PowerProtect DD System Manager (Web-GUI)
  • It is the default password for a new system (initial login)

Service Tag: iDRAC: 

  • Point a Web-Browser to the iDRAC-IP of the Data Domain system and log in 
  • Click System > Overview 

System > Overview menu in idrac UI shows Service Tag

 Serial Number: System Manager:

  • Point a Web-Browser to the management-IP address of the Data Domain system and log in.
  • Select: Maintenance > System

Maintenance > System is DD System Manager shows Serial Number
