What happens once the Dell Security Management Server (formerly Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition) is out of licenses? What should the customer do if they activate more endpoints than the licenses they purchased?

Resolution
A license is required to activate Dell Encryption (formerly Dell Data Protection | Encryption) products against a Dell Security Management Server or Dell Security Management Server Virtual (formerly Dell Data Protection | Virtual Edition). If a product exceeds the number of available licenses, future clients are not allowed to activate. The server allows for a license overage of:
- v7.0.X - v7.5.X server: 10% overage
- v8.0.X and later server: 5% overage
- An example of a 5% overage: Customer A has purchased and installed 100 licenses for Product B. This allows Customer A to activate up to 105 machines with Product B software.
- Devices incorrectly activating as Windows: Credant Edition instead of Windows: Dell edition, showing Windows: Credant Edition license consumption is fixed in the 7.2.3 shield. Updating clients to a later version and running a
WSDeactivateautomatically resolves this discrepancy.
There is a Dashboard notification when the server is out of licenses.
